The Thing Workaholics Love the Most

What’s the one thing that workaholics love the most?

It’s really obvious when you think about it.  It’s not the money or the career rewards or putting food on the table for their loved ones.  If you get right down to it, the thing workaholics love most is that they love to do “ONE MORE THING” before calling it quits for the day.

I’m sure you’re guilty of this as well.  You’re working away and after a long day, you convince yourself that you should tackle one more thing before heading home for the weekend.  You’ve got that call you have to make to land that next big contract.

I’m all for climbing the corporate ladder or building a big business from scratch, but there comes a time when you’ve got to scale back and re-prioritize.  Sometimes you have to put a limit on yourself because no one else will.

Your boss certainly won’t tell you to stop working so hard and getting so much done – you’ve effectively replaced 2 other people by being a workaholic.

Your spouse isn’t going to tell you to slow down (unless you start showing physical signs of stress) – because you’re putting food on the table and funding your kids’ education.

But if you’re overworked, overstressed, and overtaxed, then you know what I’m talking about – the toll.  The toll on your body and your mind from day in and day out doing that one more thing is crushing you.

I could go on and on with examples of these little things we tend to lump onto our daily tasks of things to do and how they can slowly destroy your life, but I won’t.  Instead, I’ll urge you to shut down your web browser and call it a day.

If you’re already at home, then go play outside.  There are far fewer things to add to your to do list out there.

An Easy Way to Eat Better For Life

Whether you’re looking to lose weight or eat better, things are stacked against you.  One of the biggest killers of your eating better plan are the empty calories you’re consuming.  Cutting out full-calorie sodas and calorie-laden lattes are a surefire way to trim a few hundred calories from your daily total.

Hidden calories are a big problem and they’re everywhere.  If you’re trying to eat healthier, but can’t seem to eat those three servings of veggies every day, then you need to just keep track of what you’re eating every day.  You don’t need to keep a food journal if you don’t want to, but you should make the effort to track what you’re eating.

The reason you want to consciously think about what you’re eating is that you want to be able to figure out what one thing you can cut out or cut down on eating.

There’s a good reason why no one ever sticks with a diet plan or a “I’m going to eat healthier this year” plan – it’s too hard.  It’s too hard to go from one extreme to the other.  You cannot go from eating pints of ice cream and Big Macs to dining on tofu and pretzels.  That kind of deprivation only lasts a day or two before you’re back to your old ways.

Instead of going to the extremes, why not pick one thing you’re going to do more of or do less of in the next 30 days.

For the next 30 days, swap out one food you eat in excess or that’s bad for you, with something else.  Keep eating everything else you normally do.  Just one simple change is all it’s going to take for you eat better for life.

If you’re trying to eat better or cut out coffee or whatever it might be, just eat a piece of fruit a day or drink half a cup less of coffee at some key point during the day.

That’s all - one piece of fruit, one less cookie is all it takes for you to build MOMENTUM and a new habit.  Once you’re on track, build from there next month with the next thing to eliminate or add to your diet.

Here’s to your success.
