Know Who You Are and Live It Every Day

The only way to live life is as who you are, not who others want you to be.  This sounds like I’m talking about high school and living up to the expectations of your parents, but I’m not.

At work, there is the persona you have on a day to day basis.  If you’re living full out and loving what you do, you’re probably not holding anything back and you’re able to just DO without much THINKING.

Figure out who you really are and where you’re going and think and act in line with the person you’re supposed to be.  If the way you’re acting in meetings, behaving on a day-to-day basis and projecting yourself to others is not in line with where you want to be ten years from now, you’re in for some long, disappointing years.

I think this quote from Steve Jobs sums up the importance of following your passion and not being afraid to become the person you’ve always wanted to become, whether it’s on the job or in your personal life.

“Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

The next steps are clear:

  • Determine your goals for the next year, five years and ten years
  • Figure out what you want to be known for.  What’s your legacy when you retire?
  • Personally, what’s going to be your legacy to the people around you, the ones you love and your community?
  • Get MOVING and LIVING the life that will allow you to fulfill these goals and dreams.
  •  Start NOW…
