Talking about your pain and suffering just brings more of it to you. No, it’s not about the Law of Attraction or anything like that (well, maybe a little).
The key is to not get upset over what you cannot control. If your client was late, someone got promoted over you, you missed the train this morning, you’re tired all the time or .
You can change the time you meet with your clients to better accommodate their schedule, you can network more and find out what you need to do to get promoted, set your alarm clock 10 minutes earlier, get more sleep by cutting out some TV or going to bed earlier or .
You get the point…focus on what you CAN do instead of COMPLAINING about things you CANNOT control.
“The secret to happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles.” – William Penn
If you’re still bumped after figuring out some of these short-term solutions, then you need to get some perspective. Is it really all that bad? Your life is a lot better than at least 90 percent of the people in this world and you need to stop giving yourself the “woe is me” speech every day.
Attack your days positively. Be grateful. Think of everything you have to be grateful for. FIND SOLUTIONS, not things to complain about. Delegate more if you’re overworked. Get more sleep if you’re tired. Exercise if you’re not happy with the way you look.
Three last things to mention about complaining…
1) No One Cares: No one wants to hear you complain. Yes, even that sympathetic friend or co-worker is sick of hearing you bitch and moan all day, every day, for the past dozen years.
2) You’re Setting Yourself Up For Failure: Complaining – listening to your own negative words every day – sends signals to your brain to believe what you’re saying over and over again – life isn’t fair, you’re tired, sick all the time, overworked, fragile, on a dead-end career path. Positive stuff? Not a chance. What do you think you’ll get more of if you talk like this – positive or negative outcomes?
3) You Avoid Doing Positive Things: Complaining distracts you from taking POSITIVE action to help solve the problems you actually do have. Focusing on solutions and steps you can take to change the things you don’t like is the path to growth and success in life.
So from now on, catch yourself if you’re complaining about something and figure out a way to eliminate that complaint for good. It’s easier than you think to find solutions when you’re looking for them.
