There’s a great article over at 99 Percent that talks about the importance of momentum. According to the post momentum is “just like Newton’s First Law of Motion: The tendency of a body in motion is to keep moving; the tendency of a body at rest is to sit still.”
Exactly. When you start working on a project, you gain momentum and you can easily keep going provided you’re motivated and have the energy. Once you stop, it’s tough to get going again. In fact, once you stop doing something at work, you’re probably done for the day.
Going beyond the work day and getting into the work week, you’ll find that if you have a big project that’s looming over you, it can be tough to make a dent in the project if you don’t take action consistently. If you focus on doing something (practically anything will do) on the project each and every day, you’ll build momentum. With momentum on your side, you can power through the lulls that every project encounters.
Stephen King writes every day and so he churns out several books a year and has become an expert at what he does. You could have similar results if you tapped into the power of momentum and took action on your projects each and every day. Not only would you finish the project faster, but you’ll find that the results you’re producing are much better in the end.
